Cooking Up Community Connections: Dining with Don Paul

Creating social connection among older adults is part of what makes Friendship Village of Dublin unique. Through a variety of exciting activities, beloved hobbies and beautiful living opportunities, there are always opportunities to connect with others in our community.

While culinary services director Don Paul would agree, he also finds that the community is created around the dinner table.

“One of the many good things about dining at Friendship Village of Dublin is that it’s not intimidating,” said Paul. “Food prompts socialization and the environment itself is very open and engaging.”

As the culinary services director, Paul works with a team of associates and resident committees to create a positive dining experience across the community. This collaboration helps him create a menu for each dining venue, ensuring heart-healthy delicacies that fuel resident activities are among the resident’s choices.

While Paul is dedicated to curating dining practices that benefit the health and well-being of community members, he also enjoys preparing resident-expressed favorites.

“I always try to incorporate residents favorite meals or comfort foods they remember from their youth,” said Paul. “Some community favorites include fried chicken, meatloaf and pot roast.”

Variety and accessibility are important for Paul and his team. The community’s four dining locations are open 12 hours a day and provide numerous options for residents to choose from ––up to 60 to 70 different options per day.

“Our dining venues are conducive to the residents’ lifestyle and what they want throughout the day,” said Paul. “Their experience can be anything from casual to a formal night out.”

With a genuine belief that everything comes with a story, Paul’s enthusiasm for food, social engagement and knowledge help fuel his efforts when working with those who call Friendship Village of Dublin home.

“Everyday I get the opportunity to strengthen the resident experience because food brings people together,” said Paul.
