Skilled nurses and medical care staff are the backbone to any retirement community. At Friendship Village of Dublin, our healthcare associates were honored through a week-long celebration known as Compassionate Care Week.
Compassionate Care Week was held the week of May 12-18. From ice cream socials to movie nights, nurses and staff were able to enjoy a week of gratitude and appreciation, honoring their commitment to creating a warm, welcoming community to residents and their families.
“The healthcare industry, regardless of the patient demographic and focus, is fast-paced and can feel thankless at times for caregivers,” said Jessica Rieker, Health Services Administrator at Friendship Village. “This designated week of the year commits to a dedicated focus on the hands and the hearts behind the service delivery in the skilled nursing space.”
One specific event held during Compassionate Care Week encouraged the participation of both residents and staff. On Wednesday, May 15, more than 100 participants collected outside to create a human chain around the campus —- a symbol of support and community.
“The human chain event sounded like a fun, different idea,” said Bonnie Prots, a nine-year resident of the community. “It was a great way to demonstrate unity.”
With sunny skies and contagious smiles, residents and staff linked hands around the front of the campus to showcase the community that Friendship Village of Dublin creates among residents and associates.
“Seeing everyone outside on a bright, sunny day was great,” said Bob Bowers, a six-year resident. “Friendship Village is a wonderful place to live: the people are caring, compassionate and friendly, which is all one can ask for.”
Even though Compassionate Care Week has come to an end, Friendship Village of Dublin continues to celebrate the selfless care provided by nurses and associates as well as the relationships one forms throughout retirement.
“Creating community is a never-ending process and Compassionate Care week is just a small thankful example!” said Rieker.
