A Multigenerational Tradition of Giving

“Friendship Village of Dublin is all about its people,” says Philanthropy Specialist Sallie Cohen. “Some of our most important people are our volunteerYoung people volunteering with seniorss. Starting as young as 14 through partnerships with local schools, volunteers bring fresh energy and invaluable experiences, learning from older generations along the way.”

Students from grade school through college are welcome volunteers in our senior living community. Volunteering gives young people a unique opportunity to connect with older generations, develop valuable life skills and make a meaningful impact. Whether helping with activities, sharing their talents or simply offering companionship, students of all ages bring fresh energy and joy to our residents.

High school volunteer Natalie Spillman, inspired by her grandmother who lives here, says, “I love engaging with Residents; helping them truly makes their day.”

Community Volunteers of All Ages

After retiring from the medical field, Master Gardener Volunteer Carolyn Abood shares, “I still wanted that sense of helping. Volunteering here lets me continue that mission.”

For some, volunteering is also a path to healing. Master Gardener Vanita Thomas found solace after her father’s passing, saying, “When I started volunteering, I thought it would be therapeutic. But it’s become so much more – getting to know the Residents has brought me true joy.”

Pet Therapy Volunteer Robin Adamson recalls a powerful moment when her dog Gus brought a rare smile to a Resident’s face, a memory cherished by her family.

Residents Give Back to Their Community

Resident volunteers at Friendship Village of DublinOur Residents also volunteer, creating a cycle of giving that strengthens our community’s spirit. As Resident Volunteer Elvira Edwards says, “It gives me purpose. Helping someone, being a source of support – it’s essential.”

“There’s always a way to give back here,” adds Resident Volunteer Bob Arkes. “Volunteering is an important part of life here, where you can connect with people, learn new things, and make a difference.”
