At Friendship Village of Dublin, we offer so much more than a place to live. For more than 40 years, we’ve built an environment where older adults thrive. Our vibrant, forward-thinking community enriches lives across central Ohio and empowers Residents to stay active, connected and engaged in life.

Mission and ValuesOur mission defines our purpose. Residents RISE as we live our core values: Respect, Integrity and Innovation, Stewardship and Excellence.

These commitments take shape in the everyday experiences of our Residents. We’re proud to celebrate their stories through our new blog series, FVD Mission Moments.

In this first installment, we honor Lorita M., a remarkable Resident who exemplifies self-advocacy and the enduring spirit of aging with grace and resilience.

A Life-saving Choice

In October 2024, Lorita made a decision that may have saved her life. At 88, she was told she didn’t need a mammogram — that she was too old. But she listened to her instincts and insisted on getting screened anyway.

“She has a new resolve to tell everyone that no matter how old you are, you need to get a mammogram because she was told she was too old and didn’t need it. Thank God, she found it herself and then after going to the doctor, they found the second lump.”

Lorita had surgery in December and began her recovery with quiet strength and resolve. On March 6, 2025, she rang the bell to mark the end of her cancer treatment. Two days later, on March 8, she turned 89.

One Mile, Many Steps of Courage

Resident Lorita M. at the Race for the CureBy spring, Lorita had not only recovered — she was ready to move forward. She joined her family to participate in the Race for the Cure, walking a full mile independently.

“Well, my fabulous mother walked one mile in Race for the Cure,” Debbie said. “She truly walked. We didn’t saunter and we didn’t mosey. She didn’t need a wheelchair. She walked. It was a fabulous experience.”

As Lorita approached the finish line, she was greeted by associates from Friendship Village of Dublin — fellow race participants who showed up to support her, just as they do in everyday community life. Debbie captured the moment:  “Imagine her surprise to get to the finish line and find Friendship Village Dublin friends who had participated.”

Living the Mission

Resident Lorita M. at the Race for the CureLorita’s path reflects how we live our broader mission. As part of our ongoing evolution, Friendship Village of Dublin recently reaffirmed this mission to reflect the full scope of who we are and the impact we strive to make.

From supporting individuals aging at home to creating vibrant campus living experiences, we focus on possibility, purpose and fulfillment for all.
